A wuxia text RPG that plays by jianghu rules

You come back to the rivers and lakes carrying a debt of blood and a name people would rather not say aloud. Sects, grudges, face, and the order in which a challenge may be made are all part of the world you are stepping into — not decoration laid over a generic fantasy.

The genre has rules, and the game master has read them

Most AI roleplay turns wuxia into fantasy with different hats: everyone duels whoever they like, and a master is beaten by whoever writes the best sentence. The world here carries its own sects, ranks and obligations, and an attempt that ignores them is judged against them rather than waved through.

The world

Twenty years after the Azure River Sect was massacred, its last disciple returns to the jianghu seeking the masked killers who scattered her family's ashes.

The jianghu is a world of wandering martial heroes, secret sects, and rooftop chases beneath paper lanterns. Honor is currency, qi flows through trained bodies, and a single duel can topple an empire's underworld.

Who is in it

Azure River Sect
a near-extinct school of flowing water-style swordplay.
Iron Lotus Pavilion
a wealthy, ruthless order that controls the canal trade.
Beggars' Brotherhood
a network of spies and street fighters who hear everything.

Where you go

Misted Gorge
where the Azure River Sect once trained beneath the waterfalls.
Jade Canal City
a sprawling water-town of bridges, teahouses, and assassins.
Temple of the Silent Bell
a mountain monastery harboring martial secrets.

What already happened

The Night of Falling Ash
the masked massacre of the Azure River Sect.
The Canal Duel
a public challenge that began the Iron Lotus's rise to power.

Who you can play

Or write your own character — the setup form takes a name, a background and what you are good at, and the game master works from that instead.

How a turn works

  1. You say what your character does, in your own words.
  2. What you attempted is weighed against your character sheet and the state of the scene — and the outcome is settled before the scene is written, so the part telling the story does not get to decide that you succeeded.
  3. The game master narrates what happened, grounded in the world's own characters, factions and places, and remembers it for the rest of the run.
